A month ago a friend told me to read a book… Like I’ve been doing my whole life, I put it on a long list of things to get to. Then he mentioned that another one of our friends was “reading” it via audiobook.
It seems like there’s never enough time for anything whether it’s going to the gym, meeting up with friends, doing something else that you would do if you had more time. For me, educating myself and reading are always on that To-Do List that never gets done. Audiobooks have fixed that. I’ve listened to 6 books in the past month, which have (1) totally changed my approach to certain business relationships, and (2) motivated me to reassess what’s most important to me in life. I tackle these audiobooks in the car, at the gym, or when I’m doing something that doesn’t require my listening and I can multitask. This way you can use your time more effectively and learn things that you’ve always wanted to know more about.
It does take time to get through an audiobook, however you can control the pace at which it reads. I usually put on a 1.25x or 1.5x which can condense the time of a 10 hour book to 7.5 hours. Depending on the narrator, this might be a bit much but some narration is extremely slow, so having the ability to fast forward while still absorbing the content is awesome.
Besides the speed on the narration, it’s always good to Preview the audio before purchasing. I’ve purchased one book where the narrator was extremely annoying and changing his voice for each character to the point where it was too distracting to focus on the message of the content.
Knowledge is the foundation for building any successful career. It’s amazing how much I’ve been able to consume in 1 month of doing audiobooks and the difference it’s made in my life. If you need any recommendations on audiobooks, send me a quick message or check out other blogs as I’ll be reviewing many of them.
